Local Pack share · 12-month trend

How Local Pack share develops with structured local visibility work.

The Local Pack share describes the percentage of local-intent searches (e.g. "[service] [city]", "[service] near me") in which your business appears among the three visible results above the Maps card. These three spots – the so-called "Local Pack" or "3-pack" – absorb around 44 % of all clicks on the local-intent results page, according to BrightLocal. The curve below shows the typical trajectory: starting at 8 % (a thoroughly optimized but not yet fully exploited Google Business Profile), building through NAP consistency, the review pipeline and category-specific citations, plateauing at roughly 55–65 % depending on competitive density. First measurable movements from week 2, a significant jump typically from month 3–4, once Google has verified the NAP signals on the model side.

Important to know: local visibility is location-dependent. The trajectory shown applies to businesses with a clearly defined catchment area (typically 1–5 locations, urban areas under 1 million residents). Multi-location brands with 10+ locations reach similar values – but additionally need multi-location templating and consistent category mappings across all their Google profiles. Data basis: 23 client trajectories from the Loomup client base (trades, practices, hospitality, retail) over the period 2024–2025.

Sound familiar?

These local visibility problems come up again and again

If even one of these applies, you're leaving enquiries on the table every day – from people who were already searching for your service.

!

Invisible in the Local Pack

You don't show up in the first three Maps results for "[service] in [city]" searches – even though someone right next door is clicking and calling.

?

Outdated business profile

Opening hours, phone number or address are no longer correct, the last photo is old, reviews go unanswered – trust erodes.

Hardly any reviews

Competitors with 200+ reviews appear at the top, you with 12 below them. Even equivalent service loses every visibility round as a result.

×

NAP data drifting apart

Name, address and phone appear slightly differently across 30 directories – Google reads that as uncertainty and downgrades your visibility.

What's in it for you

Why ongoing local visibility pays off

Lever 1

Visibility in the Local Pack

The three top Maps results get the largest share of all local clicks. We get you there systematically – and keep you there.

Lever 2

More enquiries via Google

Calls, directions, appointment bookings straight from the profile – without the detour via your website. Every interaction is measurable in the reporting.

Lever 3

Trust through reviews

Current, honest reviews are the shop window of your profile. We build a continuous review flow and reply professionally.

Lever 4

Less dependent on ad budget

Visibility from the Local Pack is organic – it doesn't vanish the moment you cut the Google Ads budget. A compounding effect instead of a flash in the pan.

Quick wins

What becomes noticeable in the first two weeks

Local visibility is one of the few marketing levers where solid groundwork works surprisingly fast. These measures often deliver measurable improvements within 14 days.

1

Profile completeness at 100 %

Categories, opening hours (including holidays), description, services, a booking or call link, a full photo set: exterior, interior, team, work in progress.

2

Straighten out NAP data

Name, address and phone number written identically across your website, profile and the most important directories – Google sees a consistent picture and upgrades your visibility.

3

An active review flow

A friendly invitation right after a service is delivered – by email, SMS or QR code on site. Personal, short replies to all existing reviews.

4

Fill out the Q&A section

Add the most common customer questions yourself and answer them officially – it saves time on first contact and gives AI models usable facts about your business.

5

A first Google post

A current offer, notice, event or seasonal promotion – shows Google and searchers that the profile is being maintained. It works like an "open" sign for the digital branch.

6

Activate conversion tracking

Make calls, route clicks and bookings from the profile measurable. Only from here do you know which measure has which effect.

Hurdles & solutions

Typical pitfalls – and how we resolve them

Hurdle

"Barely any reviews come in."

Solution: integrate a review request right after the service is delivered into the standard process – via email footer, receipt QR code, automated follow-up touchpoint. The conversion rate typically rises by a factor of 4–8.

Hurdle

"We have 8 branches – it gets unmanageable."

Solution: a multi-location setup with central management. Each location gets its own optimized profile, consistent branding, locally adapted content – but the upkeep is consolidated, not done eight times over.

Hurdle

"A negative review hurts us."

Solution: a prompt, friendly, solution-oriented reply – public, with a bridge into a direct channel. Criticism answered professionally often reads as more credible than nothing but 5-star praise.

Local + AI

Local visibility now feeds into AI visibility too.

Generative AI systems like ChatGPT, Perplexity and the Google AI Overviews draw on the same signals for local recommendations that Google uses for the Local Pack: consistent NAP data, reviews, mentions, schema markup, regional authority. Get the local groundwork right and you automatically appear more often in AI recommendations for "the best [service] in [city]".

That's why we always think about Local SEO together with GEO – not as a separate discipline, but as two levers of the same visibility system.

More on AI Visibility (GEO) →

Consistent NAP

Google & AI read the same signals – one clean source works twice over.

Fresh reviews

Current voices are a trust signal for Maps and citability for AI answers.

Local authority

Regional backlinks and city portals boost Local Pack ranking and AI recommendation.

Why Loomup

What sets our local visibility work apart

Local + AI from one source

We build local visibility so that it works in both the Local Pack and AI recommendations – without a second agency, without double the cost.

Automated where it makes sense

Review requests, NAP monitoring, citation cleanup, profile posts: recurring tasks run automatically. You pay for impact, not for repetition.

Reported by location

Reporting per location, not aggregated across the whole account. You see which branch is growing, which is stagnating and where the next lever sits.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about local visibility

How long does it take until we're visible in the Local Pack?

First effects – more profile views, more calls, new reviews – are often visible within 2–4 weeks, once the business profile is set up cleanly and the review flow is active. Stable top-3 positions in the Local Pack for competitive searches take 3–6 months of continuous work, depending on the competition.

What does ongoing Local SEO support cost?

We deliberately don't publish flat prices – effort and levers depend heavily on the number of locations, the competition and the scope you want. After the free Local Check you receive a personalized quote in which every item is explained. That way you know exactly what you're paying for before you decide.

Is local SEO worth it for online businesses without a storefront too?

Yes, if you address regional audiences or offer local on-site service (e.g. mobile services, service areas). In that case we set up a service-area business profile that works without a public address but can still appear in the Local Pack.

How does your Review Management work?

Three pillars: first, systematic review requests right after a service is delivered – friendly, voluntary, with nothing in return (Google prohibits buying reviews). Second, short, personal, case-specific replies to all reviews. Third, an early-warning system that flags negative reviews immediately, so you can respond promptly and professionally.

We have several locations – how does that work?

We set up a centrally managed multi-location setup. Each branch gets its own optimized business profile with locally adapted content, the review flow runs per location, and the reporting shows views, enquiries and Local Pack position separately for each location. Upkeep and updates, however, are handled in a consolidated way through a single interface.

What are citations and why do they matter?

Citations are listings of your business in industry and online directories (e.g. Yellow Pages, business directories, Yelp, sector-specific portals). They act as confirmation of your existence and the consistency of your NAP data. Google uses them as a trust signal for local visibility. We build the citations relevant to your sector and keep them current over time.

What sets Loomup apart from traditional Local SEO agencies?

Three things: first, we always think about Local SEO together with AI visibility (GEO) – the signals overlap heavily, and using them twice over saves effort. Second, we automate recurring tasks (review requests, NAP monitoring, profile posts), so you pay for impact, not for repetition. Third, we report by location rather than in aggregate – you see, per branch, what's working.

What does local visibility mean?

Local visibility means your business shows up when people near you search for your service: in the Local Pack (the three map results above Google search), in Google Maps and for near-me queries. It generates calls, appointments and store visits.

How do I get into the Local Pack on Google?

The three most important levers are a fully optimized Google Business Profile, consistent business data (NAP) across every platform, and a continuous flow of genuine reviews. Add to that local keywords and the right choice of categories. These are exactly the factors Loomup optimizes, location by location.

How important are Google reviews for local visibility?

Very important. Reviews are both a ranking signal for the Local Pack and a trust signal for customers – 88 percent read reviews before an in-person visit. Loomup builds a systematic review flow that continuously generates genuine reviews.

Does local visibility work for multiple locations too?

Yes. For branch networks, Loomup uses multi-location optimization with consistent profiles, local landing pages and uniform categories across every location – scalable from two to over 200 branches.
